Endless Moab

Sadly, tomorrow we leave Moab and head South. This is such a wonderful place. For the past week, we have been at Goose Island BLM campground right on the Colorado River. It's been pretty hot - around 90 every day - but the sun goes behind those gorgeous red cliffs at 4pm and it cools off pretty quickly.

Here's our parking spot at Goose Island. Amazing, huh?

For the past few days, Ron has been visiting his son in Salt Lake City. I stayed here in the RV and yesterday Diana and I took a hike south of town. The first half was an easy hike along a jeep track. We passed this formation named the Moab Rim Arch. You can't tell from the picture, but it's huge!

The last part was up a hill with only a suggestion of a trail, but there was an interesting arch at the top so we had incentive. (It was actually harder coming down - we finally tracked our own footsteps backwards.)

Here's Tukuhnikivats Arch! No, that's not a typo. This arch has a name bigger than itself. What amazed me was that it actually looked bigger from the bottom of the hill.

We had a lovely break in the shade of the arch.

After scrambling back down, we took a different route back through 'Conehead Valley', named by the locals after the conehead characters from Saturday Night Live.

  2. Yup, that was quite an adventure. That hike seems to get longer every time I go on it.

  3. Hi Barbara & Ron, I've been following your blog for some time now, along with Diana's. Thanks for sharing.

You seem to be heading south towards my neck of the woods...Phoenix. I'm anxiously watching for the next move, lol.
