In Loving Memory

The world lost a precious person this past week.  My Aunt Bea (or Beatrice) passed away very suddenly and unexpectedly.  She had just celebrated her 88th birthday last week.  When I saw her last month I thought she was doing very well.  But you never know what's going on inside.  I'll always remember her smile and her ability to make me feel special.  She didn't even seem to mind that I still called her Aunt Bea from my childhood, although at some point I guess I could have switched to Beatrice.

I have some pictures of my lovely aunt.  She will always hold a special place in my heart.

Luckily, not only is my father a photographer, but his father before him.  Here is Aunt Bea on the right, with her brother (my father) and her sister (Millicent).

When they were young, they lived in an idyllic small town in central Pennsylvania, but their father died much too young and their mother was left raising three kids on her own (before welfare.)

Here's Beatrice with her mother (my grandmother).

And her wedding day with my Uncle Paul.

And with my one and only cousin Linda.

I seem to have quite a gap here, since I think she was in her fifties in this picture.  She and my uncle did some RVing too.  It runs in the family.

And the last picture is the only one I took.  It was at my father's 90th birthday party so she was 85.  She really didn't' want her picture taken, but I don't know why.  She was still cute as a button!

Good-bye, Aunt Bea.  I know you're at peace and it's those who loved you who are hurting.  I am so lucky to have had you in my life.

  2. Even though I'm 65 I still call my two remaining uncles, Uncle. No matter how old you are or how old they are, you always feel the loss.

  4. Nice tribute to a loved one. So sorry to hear of her sudden passing. Is this the aunt who brought Diana through the south on her way to Florida; I know she was concerned about her.

  8. Just read your Blog posting about mom. I posted one today and happened to duplicate one of your photos, although I didn't crop off Uncle Ellis and Aunt Millicent. Thanks for the tribute, very moving.
    Love, your cousin, Linda
