Sad News

I still have a couple of posts for Nebraska, but I'm going to skip ahead a bit.  While there, I was notified that my 90 year old Aunt Mimi had broken her hip.  Six months ago, my daughters and I had moved her into a Memory Care facility near them in Jacksonville, Florida.  So I hurried to Denver to catch a flight to Florida.

During the hip operation, it seems she suffered a stroke and only lasted a short time before leaving us with only our memories.  But what memories they are!  She was married to the perfect man for 60-some years and they lived life to the fullest.

She was gorgeous and I'm sure she had her pick of suitors.  She had very entertaining stories.  This is my favorite.  Before she met my uncle, she was going with another gentleman whom she liked a lot. However, she couldn't put up with his controlling mother.  So she broke up with him and declared that she was going to find a man who didn't have a mother!  Luckily, my uncle was an orphan.

Aunt Mimi and Uncle Clarence were very elegant.  During their working careers, they lived in the Washington, D.C. area and were very socially active.

Even later in life, she retained that elegance although her health declined after the death of her husband in 2010 and the discovery of an inoperable brain tumor around the same time.

Although we will miss her, we are comforted that she had a long and wonderful life.

While I was in Jacksonville, I enjoyed spending time with my daughters and son-in-law.  One day, the girls took me to the beach where they demonstrated their abilities with boogie boards.  I was amazed at the size of the waves.

But first they set up their pasty-white mother in comfort and with sun protection.

She was indeed a beautiful woman. Thanks for the pics. She was as lucky to have you in her life as you were to have her in yours, I'm sure.

  7. I just lost my sister-in-law at age 93. What glamour girls they were in those days. There's something about the 1930-40s that so intriguing to me. My sister in, too, was a beautiful lady up until her last day. Yes, your aunt and she and lovely long lives. I am sorry for your loss, but how wonderful that you are left with lovely memories. Still, I'm sorry for your loss.
