At the Fairgrounds

While we were staying at the fairgrounds, we were happy to hear that presidential candidate Mitt Romney was stopping there on his Colorado tour.  We got tickets (free) online and walked over.  How convenient.  We were among the last 10 people, out of 1000, who where admitted, so we had to stand but it was exciting to be there.  Diana lent me her Canon SD4500 IS camera that has such a terrific 10X zoom.

Mr. Romney first spoke to all those people who were left outside so we had a wait.  I entertained myself by watching the Secret Service.  I was trying to get a shot of this guy talking into his sleeve, but he was too quick for me.
(By the way, since when do they hire 15 year old Secret Service agents?)

Finally the big man himself appeared.  I don't want to turn this blog political, but I liked what he had to say.

And again I was entertained by the Secret Service agents.  Just their eyes move.

Based at the fairgrounds is the Westernaires, a local non-profit organization whose goal is to build character in young people through horsemanship and family participation.  Most of the participants are girls of ages 9 to 19.

I thought this little girl was so cute and really seemed to know what she was doing.

We also checked out what was happening in the indoor arena.  Those riders seemed less advanced and were taking their mounts over a low jump.  Some were more successful than others.  I had to laugh at the gorgeous white horse in this video.  Goes to show that looks aren't everything.

And if that wasn't enough local entertainment, one evening we arrived home to find medieval knights fighting in our front yard.  How unusual.

  1. I guess the Secret Service is getting a little soft, no ties!

And yes, they are looking a little young, maybe he was a Cub Secret Service agent? ;c)
