Lake Agnes

Lake Agnes has to be one of the most beautiful mountain lakes in the U.S.  It is located in the Colorado State Forest (who knew there was such a place?) about seven miles east of Gould off CO 14.

The price to experience this wondrous place is $7 per car and I didn't even mind paying.  Even the view from the parking lot is pretty.

The trail is short at only 8 tenths of a mile (each way) and moderately steep with a 480 foot elevation gain. With the trail beginning at over 10,000 foot elevation, you can imagine we did some huffing.

But we made it and just look at this perfect lake!

It has crystal clear water.

We carefully made our way around the edge of the lake.  (See Ron up there?)

And had a snack while basking in all the beauty.  Ron had a feeling that somebody was watching him.

I couldn't stop taking pictures.

On our way back home, we saw some pretty aspen trees heralding the coming of autumn.

  1. It is very pretty and that water looks so inviting although I bet it's cold. Autumn will soon be arrive although around here there are no early signs of it , I suspect that because its been such a wet summer the trees are still soaking the water up. Hope fully we will have a drier autumn.

  2. What a great hike. At that elevation, I would be glad it is not any longer than it is. Your photos are the first I have seen this year of the first signs of autumn.

Glad you are both having fun.

  3. Sort of underlines the saying: "Watch your back". Hope Ron's little stalker didn't make off with his lunch, I think if you look closely, you can see the little guy drooling!

  4. What a sweet place! YES fall is in the works, still hot here but the trees are starting to drop the leaves already.

  5. How beautiful. And I've never been there. I love the fall foliage.

  6. I love that place - was sorry to miss it this year.

  7. And here I was expecting a post on lake Agnes up in the Canadian Rockies. I had no idea it had a counterpart in Colorado.
