For the past 24 hours, we've been having intermittent strong wind, storms, threats of hail and possible tornadoes. So today we went out and got one of these handy little gadgets. . .
It's a NOAA weather alert radio. It's really tricky. If there's an alert in the area, the alarm goes off and the alert is announced. It seems to cover several counties and so far has gone off twice sending us running for the map. Both times were far enough away to be reassuring. I do wonder how much sleep we'll get tonight, though.
If you look closely at the button on the radio, it says 'weather snooze'. We got a kick out of that - imagining all sorts of meanings. Can you tell the weather to snooze by pushing a button? Or is that if you are asleep and don't want to hear it until you wake up? I had to actually read the directions. It simply means if you are using it for weather, hitting that button will give you the weather, but if you are using it as an alarm clock, it's a snooze button.
Cool gadget! I guess if we're going to be in this part of the country, we should all have one.
ReplyDeleteWell, it's a mixed blessing. Here I am in the middle of the night listening to it. It's a bit difficult to find all the towns he mentions. It looks like it's all past us now and I should go back to bed.
ReplyDeleteLooks like Breckenridge got hit hard. Glad your aren't still there!! Be careful!! It's nice here in AZ :-)
ReplyDeleteOh no! Not cute little Breckenridge! That's terrible. We passed a place today in the northern part of Fort Worth where there was obvious damage. We just had some branches down.
